Our county and most of South Florida is considered 96% unchurched. In order to move this percentage down just 1% to 95% it would take 14,000 people making a decision to repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15). 1% of our counties 1,400,000 residents equals 14,000.
In 2014 our church baptized 245 new believers/disciples and so you can see that we have a long way to go. Obviously we are not the only church in our county but if you were to add up all the baptisms from all of our churches we would still fall well short of turning back the lostness in our county.
We need a different strategy. We need a strategy that would at least allow us the opportunity of seeing 14,000 and many more coming to Christ with rapidity. We are actually seeing people coming to Christ in great numbers all around the world. At the turn of the century 2 million believers came to Christ over a ten year period and this number grows today. In India 10-15,000 believers are coming to Christ monthly in one of the world fastest growing church planting movements in the world.
What about the US and what about the churches in the US? I have great news. The robustness of the gospel in China, India and other foreign countries is just as robust here in the US. God IS reconciling the world to himself ALL over the world.
Our strategies have got to change. Our methods of training believers must be reexamined. Our vision of multiplying disciples hast to shift. Our tools of gospel advancement and discipleship must me reproducible (Easy enough for new believer to embrace and use) and reproducing (True Disciples). Our attempts of church planting must include leaner, more economical bi-vocational strategies that are rapidly multiplied. Every believer in our church has to be equipped to turn everyday conversations to gospel conversations and every member needs to be challenged to make disciples. Church leaders have got to put the simple tools in their hands so that they can share and disciple.
These are the conversations we are having everyday at Family Church, yes everyday. We do not have all the answers, if fact we have more questions than answers at this point but we are believing. We are finding great hope in passages like Acts 19:10, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 and Acts 17:32-34. God is reconciling the world to himself, he has entrusted to us this message and we are eager to go in his great name.
I believe we will see 14,000 men, women, boys and girls place their faith in Jesus Christ and many, many more! I believe it!!!
