Last week Tom Cheyney, co-author of Spin-Off Churches traveled down to West Palm Beach to meet with us. Over the last couple years, I have read multiple churches on the subject of church planting.
One of the stories in this theologically supported book was of great encouragement.
“In 1755, eight families traveled to North Carolina and settled at Sandy Creek. They organized the Sandy Creek Baptist Church and built a church building even before constructing their own homes. It is said that Pastor Shubal Stearns’ greatest contribution to Baptists was evangelism, especially in the areas of missions and church planting. He had a dream of sending out preachers and planting churches throughout the South.
In the church’s first three years the church planted six new congregations. By 1758 the total membership of Sandy Creek and her church plants was nine hundred. By 1772 Sandy Creek had planted 42 churches and missions that resulted in the formation of the Sandy Creek Association that is still active today.” Page 19
