When it comes to protecting my wife and family, I will do anything and go against anybody. In fact, I’ve been known to keep a baseball bat beside my bed. One time we heard a loud crash downstairs and my wife says I flew out of bed, grabbed the bat and was standing in the hallway ready to protect her before she could even open her eyes. No one messes with my family. I love them and will do anything in my power to protect them.
This is how God feels about those of us who have repented and believed in Jesus. We are now filled with his Holy Spirit, and according to 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 this means we are God’s temple and “If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.”
God is going to protect his house.
We can now build without fear as we co-labor with God to build our lives, families and churches. I like the popular Chris Tomlin song, Our God, because it reaffirms the truth of Romans 8 that if God is for us, no one can stop us or stand against us.
There was no intruder in our house that night, but God does say that we will face opposition. We will have trouble in this life. In fact, there may be times when it seems like we’re losing. We may lose our jobs, health, friends, cars, boats or homes, but we will never lose our secure position as a part of God’s kingdom. This weekend at Family Church we will learn about the resources that we have access to because we belong to God. You won’t want to miss being encouraged by the fact we already have the victory in Christ!
