In some circles, E=MC2 refers to the equation indicating that energy always exhibits relativistic mass in whatever form the energy takes.

In church planting circles E=MC2 means that “effectiveness” (E) is determined when “men of conviction” (MC) are men of prayer that are not ashamed of the gospel (2). In the sermon above pastor Jimmy Scroggins shares a powerful message highlighting gospel conviction.

Last month I spoke to a church planter in the Boston area. It was interesting to learn that recently seventeen church plants had failed in that area for various reasons. This particular church plant, Redemption Hill Church, launched April 10, 2011, is thriving. They would love to see God increase our worship attendance to 125 by Easter & 175 by the year’s end.

Here are a few takeaways from my conversations with this church plant:

1. Men of conviction– When I asked one of the lead pastors about contributors of their success. He said, “When we (church planting team) drove across the bridge when we came into town, WE BURNED THE BRIDGE! We will die here planting this and other churches for the glory of God.”

2. Team approach– This church plant has three pastors, their families and a single lady that make up their leadership team.

3. Bivocational– Everyone on their team is working a secular job and they see this as an added advantage, not a hindrance. This speaks of the humility of their team when you consider the education that each of them have.

4. Network– This church plant is part of a larger church planting organization called the NACPF.

We are praying and searching for men that are like minded and guided by gospel conviction as described in Jimmy’s message above. Without this calling and conviction, there is little hope to make a dent in the lostness of south Florida.
