As a pastor, I often act as an emergency responder or firefighter. I get called in when someone’s marriage or life goes up in flames and have to race to the scene. Unfortunately, I often arrive too late because they didn’t call when they first smelled smoke. This weekend at Family Church we’re going to talk about what to do when it seems like our lives are burning down.
We’re going to look at story in the Bible (1 Samuel 30) where David’s life literally goes up in flames. His home is burned and his family is taken captive. How he reacts is a good model for how we should react when our lives go up in flames. David “strengthens himself in the Lord.” He inquires of the Lord. He holds on to God’s promises to him. Eventually, David recaptures and restores all that was lost. We can learn from and follow David’s example.
As we wrap up our series on breathing life into our relationships, we’ll deal with the fact that our past failures often leave us feeling like damaged goods. While it’s true that we can be left with relational scars, it’s never too late to recover and pursue God’s design for our lives.
God is fighting for you and working in you! Join us this weekend to be strengthened in Him.
