I love this time of year because it’s almost Easter. There is nothing better than celebrating Jesus’ resurrection from the dead and the sacrifice He made so that we can be made right with God. Regardless of who you are or what you look like, you’re flawed – I’m flawed! This Sunday we’re going to talk about Passover and how Jesus became the ultimate flawless sacrifice for us—the flawed ones.
Right before Jesus was crucified, He sat down for a Passover meal with His disciples. Passover commemorates God sparing the Israelites when He sent judgment over all of Egypt. If they painted the blood of a sacrificial lamb on their doorposts, death would pass over their homes. After Passover, God’s people made their exodus from Egypt. For centuries, God’s people atoned for their sin through sacrifice after sacrifice after sacrifice. But when Jesus died, everything changed.
He was the flawless, sacrificial lamb who atoned for sin once and for all. Because of Jesus, we can have a fresh start—once and for all, as well as every single day of our lives. This is what happens when we place our faith in Jesus and stop trying to fix our own sin. Let’s get ready to celebrate this Easter by remembering that Jesus paid it all. More importantly, let’s celebrate by inviting others to come and hear how they can get a fresh start.
